Denver Broncos

2017 Outstanding Facility of the Year

About This Project

In 2015, SCG Fields replaced the existing sand based, natural turf playing field for the Denver Broncos at Sport’s Authority Stadium, now known as Empower Field at Mile High.

To install the new high-performance system, SCG first had to remove the existing playing field sod, rootzone, Desso Grassmaster system, hydronic heating system, irrigation system, and 2” of the 4” gravel drainage layer.

The new field warming system included all-new pex tubing, glycol supply and return lines from the playing field to the heat exchanger in boiler room, all new pumps, controls, and playing field heat sensors. The new irrigation system was complete with new irrigation heads, swing joints, valves, and boxes. The new playing field profile consisted of 2” of pea gravel and 10” of a 90/10 blend of sand and organic USGA rootzone.

The playing field surface is a sand grown Kentucky Bluegrass (KGB) turfgrass, certified by the United States Department of Agriculture as being true to variety and having a healthy vigorous root system.

Empower Field at Mile High (formerly Sports Authority Stadium) is a world-renowned facility that is host to several events annually. Concert tours, music festivals, NFL football games, Major League Lacrosse, and other high-profile events are featured at this outdoor entertainment venue. SCG is proud to have been associated with this extensive renovation.
This field was the recipient of the “2017 Outstanding Single Facility of the Year” by the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA).
