Lakeside Field at Northwestern University
2017 Outstanding Single Field Facility
About This Project
As the playing field subcontractor for this extensive project, SCG Fields was responsible for the construction and regrading of the synthetic turf field hockey stadium located at the Lakeside Sports Complex at Northwestern University.
SCG’s scope was to construct a world-class field hockey facility from the existing subgrade. SCG Fields was also responsible for the installation of infiltration trenches along the east and west sides of the playing field and the re-installation of existing subbase stone material across the entire subgrade. Once complete, SCG furnished 6″ of new aggregate base via laser grading techniques and then installed a porous asphalt layer in two lifts to extremely precise and specific FIH approved slope tolerances.
SCG Fields was also responsible to furnish and install AstroTurf A12 synthetic field hockey turf with sewn seams. This turf was installed atop a 3/8″ perforated Armacell foam pad and adhered with NORDOT adhesive.
This field was a recipient of an International Hockey Federation (FIH) Class 1 Global Pitch Certification in accordance with FIH Pitch Handbook, dated February 2014. It was also recognized as a “2017 Distinguished Single Field Facility” by the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA). Lakeside Field at Northwestern University is regarded as one of the preeminent field hockey facilities worldwide, and it was built by SCG Fields.
