Browns Practice Facility

About This Project

The Issue

The synthetic turf surface at the Cleveland Browns indoor practice field had become too hard and required replacement. Because the field would serve professional athletes, it required the highest level of quality and materials. Plus, the work had to be executed with an extremely tight turnaround to be completed in time for the start of training camp.

The Job

For the surface, the Cleveland Browns selected a high-performance synthetic turf designed to maximize player performance and speed. The 2.5” pile-height offers an optimal level of shock attenuation for contact sports, like football. The Cleveland Browns called upon the organization’s go-to field construction partner, SCG Fields, to handle the installation. The team has been working with SCG since 1999 when it constructed the field for Cleveland Browns Stadium. Moving quickly, SCG removed the old surface and installed the new Momentum 51 synthetic turf system in just three weeks.

The Results

“We chose Shaw Sportexe because it had the best quality turf coming out of the factory. Plus, its product quality and vast resources are unparalleled,” said Chris Powell, Cleveland Browns head groundskeeper. “In combination with [SCG], I had the assurance of the best product and the best installation. SCG has a proven track record with the Browns, having constructed our natural grass field at Cleveland Browns Stadium. And it has a proven track record with other teams at the professional and collegiate levels. So, having SCG do the installation was a no-brainer.”
