The Issue: After the College of New Jersey (TCNJ) learned that its aged synthetic field had potentially harmful levels of lead and heavy metals, the field was closed until the worn turf was removed and replaced. The college’s graduation ceremony was scheduled for the coming months and the field needed to be restored under a tight deadline.
The Job: SCG was selected to remove and replace the aged field based on its stellar reputation for superior, quick service and its prior relationship with the college. This is SCG’s fourth TCNJ project.
The school is the first to receive turf manufacturer, TigerTurf’s, most technologically advanced artificial system, Trophy Turf. The product features superior yarns that were engineered for improved performance, superior recovery and extended durability. Development was a result of the discussions of numerous leading football players and coaches as they compared their needs and experiences of a quality field.
TCNJ is regionally known for its premier sports program and it was important to choose an equally superior product.

The Results: Under strict time constraints and a watchful community eye, SCG installed – on time and on budget – one of the most superb products on the market to create an amazing and, most importantly, safe multi-sport facility. “SCG has been extremely thorough and responsive to our needs,” said Matt Golden, TCNJ executive director for public relations and communications. “We’ll be able to count on the quality and material safety of the new turf for years,” he added.
