D. Michael Sherman
CEO & President

Mike, is the majority owner of SCG fields, LLC,. Mike became familiar with the company when SCGfields was still S.W. Franks, and became a longtime friend and advisor to the Franks Family. He has a long history in the insurance industry - over 40 years’ experience. He received his B.A. from Alma College, and his M.B.A from Baldwin Wallace. He is currently a member of IIAA and CIAB, and a former President of the Insurance Board of Greater Cleveland. Mike is actively involved in management and strategic direction of the firm.

Chris Franks, CFB
EVP Construction Operations

Following in the footsteps of his father, Chris began working as a laborer for S.W. Franks Construction Co. then while in high school joined a traveling crew during the summer months. Chris earned degrees in Business Finance and Business Management from Loyola College in Maryland. He worked as a project engineer at Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in Baltimore, Maryland from 2007-2008. Rejoining the company in 2008, his experience in the construction industry has played a major role in the successful completion of multiple major projects, one of which being the New York Yankee’s new stadium where he was the project superintendent. Currently Chris is the EVP of Construction Operations and leads all construction and field operations. Chris is a member of the Sports Turf Management Association and is a Certified Field Builder recognized by the ASBA. Chris is a minority owner of the company.

Joe Smith, Esq
Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer

Joe has had over 30 years of experience as an accountant and a lawyer managing a variety of complex business situations. His experience range has been with small and large companies. He has worked with both for profit and not for profit entities. Over the years his client's have engaged his services as a trusted business partner that can also serve as a business "quarterback" operating and maneuvering their businesses through financial and legal challenges. Joe leads day to day operations of the firm striving for efficiency and profitable growth.

Ed Berichon, CPA
Controller

Ed oversees all accounting items for SCGfields as well as all other DMS entities. He has a CPA and a BA from Kent State University and a contagious bubbly nature. He enjoys softball, wine, model airplanes and "other nerdy accountant type activities". Ed makes for a delightful and experienced addition our accounting team.

Steve Hines
Assistant Controller

Coming to SCG in early 2017, Steve makes a strong addition to our accounting team. Boasting a BA in accounting from Bowling Green State University, as well as many years of experience in the field with organizations ranging from CPA firms, commercial property management and real estate development. Steve is responsible for project billings, accounts payable, and assisting with job costing and financial reporting. He enjoys music and is an avid outdoorsman participating in various activities including softball, hiking, biking and bowling.

George Pfeffer, RA
EVP Estimating

George Pfeffer brings more than 35 years of design and construction related experience. He graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Architecture and has been a registered architect in the State of Ohio since 1981. Prior to joining the SCG family, George was a partner and president of Site Technology, Inc. He is also a member of the Sports Turf Managers Association. George has been actively involved in many of the high profile projects throughout the firm's transformation into a premier sports facility contractor and his duties include in-house design, estimating, and assisting with project management. George leads and manages all estimating responsibilities in the firm.

Mike Swan
Estimator

Mike joined SCG in December of 2015 after several years as an estimator and project manager for a Cleveland, Ohio based heavy highway contractor. In his early days, he had worked for and around a number of heavy equipment sales companies. Upon graduation from Kent State University with a BS in Business Management, he decided to delve further into the construction industry. In his time off, Mike enjoys the outdoors, sporting events, and travel with his wife and daughter.

Tom Maloney
Operations Manager / Surveyor

Tom has been with SCGfields for over 7 years, and operates both as a Survey Engineer and Operations Manager. As a surveyor he is responsible for the plan pulls and take off information necessary for all construction layout needs. As an Operations Manager he spends most of his time on-site overseeing job management and focusing on field-to-office coordination. He works closely with our Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure each job is completed on-time and under budget. He brings to the table a degree of applied science in Forestry Technology, and over 30 years’ survey and construction experience.

Kevin Pfeffer
Project Manager

Kevin started working for SCG as a laborer and surveyor’s assistant during breaks from college at Bowling Green State University. Upon graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and Technology, he joined SCG full-time in 2006 as an estimator and project manager. Since then he has become an integral part of the estimating and project management team. Over the past several years Kevin has managed all estimating and project management for the synthetic turf division on SCG projects.

Paul Franks
Director of Sales - Great Lakes Region

Paul is known in the industry as the Godfather of turf. Paul has developed respect with all the key players in the industry because of his deep knowledge and valuable experience. He is called on by many firms to consult and render his opinion as to the intricacies in field installation and development. Paul is one of the pioneers in the sports field construction industry, working with elite sports organizations like the New York Yankees, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Ravens and many more. Paul heads up all Business Development, Marketing and Sales at SCG fields.

Christopher McGill
Director of Sales & Operations - Southeast Region

Chris  came to SCG over 7 years ago,  with a strong construction and sports background, he began in sales and quickly progressed to Director of Florida Operations.  After 5 years in the United States Army in the Signal Corps, he owned and operated several businesses in Florida, including a residential and commercial Masonry company.  A father of 4 and married for 23 years, he operated two senior living facilities, constructed his own home, then moved into the Sports Industry, managing a Sports Academy and scouting for MLB and Division I baseball programs.  Securing relationships within the state of Florida colleges and universities, Chris became an integral leader in sales, construction and operations for SCG.  He and his team completed the Key West Air Base Sports Fields, Citrus Bowl, Ballparks of West Palm for the Astros and Nationals and several High School multi-purpose fields.  He is OSHA 30 certified.  Resourceful and results-driven, Chris’ brings value to his position, well-respected by his crew and works tirelessly until the job is done.

Jeff Podolsky
Project Manager & Estimator, Southeast Region

Jeff joined SCGfields in May of 2015. He comes from Ohio Northern University where he played 4 years of football and graduated with an undergraduate degree in construction management.  He brings his OSHA 30 certification and his time working with the Ohio Department of Transportation to the team. During his time with ODOT as a project intern, Jeff gained valuable experience in civil construction and scheduling. Jeff currently coordinates between the field and the office for various projects in NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, TN and FL. He works closely with our crews on site and handles project management, estimating and procurement to ensure the project runs smoothly and is completed on time. Since joining SCG, some of the projects Jeff has completed include: Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, Northwestern Univ. Field Hockey, Lynchburg Hillcats’ Calvin Falwell Field, The Ohio State Univ. Beekman Park: Field #9, Penn State Holuba Hall Indoor, Univ. of Miami (FL) Practice Fields, N. Miami Athletic Stadium and Central Michigan Univ. Lacrosse field.

Dan Peyton
Assistant Project Manager, Great Lakes Region

Dan interned at SCG Fields for two summers in 2016 and 2017 as our project management intern. Upon graduating in May of 2018 from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering, he was brought on full time as a project management assistant. Dan is currently taking courses to earn his OSHA 30 certificate. He played rugby for nearly 10 years and loves to help his previous teams with coaching and training. Dan is also an avid Cleveland sports and OSU football fan.

Justin Solsvig
Assistant Project Manager, Southeast Region

Justin joined SCG Fields in May of 2018. He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he played four years of rugby. He then attended the University of Georgia where he received his Certificate in Turfgrass Management in 2013. Justin has been in the turfgrass industry for 22 years, starting as young as 16 years old as a groundskeeper for St. Croix National Golf Course in Somerset, Wisconsin. He is experienced in Tuft pull and Gmax and is a regular student of industry webinars. Justin is a member of the Institute of Groundsmanship, the Sports Turf Managers Association, and is also a licensed pesticide applicator. He is OHSA 10 certified and will soon have his OSHA 30 Certification and his Urban Landscape Professional Certification. His love of sports has driven his career in turfgrass management.

Jim Henry
Sales Manager - Great Lakes Region

Jim joined the SCG sales team in the the fall of 2017. A southern Ohio native, he works closely with Paul Franks to handle all of our sales efforts for the Great Lakes Region. Jim brings over 25 years of sales experience, and has operated as a high performance employee for companies like Procter & Gamble, Fifth Third Bank and most recently The Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University. A family man, he most enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.

Joel Desguin
Florida Sales Manager

Joel originates from Punta Gorda, FL and joined SCG in 2017. He and Chris McGill work side-by-side to bring the highest quality playing field systems to the Southeast Region of the country. Joel graduated from Florida State University with a Physical Education Degree and a Masters in Athletic Administration. His previous titles include; Assistant Baseball Coach at FSU, High School Football Coach and JUCO Baseball Coach. In keeping with his love for teaching, and seeing our youth succeed in their athletic goals, Joel currently works with elementary students as a PE Teacher. Joel enjoys spending time with his son, who currently plays baseball in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Keith Froelich
Michigan Sales Manager

Keith joined our team in 2017 and came highly recommended based on his experience in the sports industry. Happily located in northern Michigan, his credentials are impressive and include a period from 1982-2010 where he served as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Okemos High School.  Over the course of his career he's held similar positions at Alma, DeLaSalle Collegiate Prep, and St. Mary's of Redford. He also played a key role in many organizations and was President and Regional Director of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association and Michigan Athletic Administrators Association. Love for the game is obvious throughout his life's work. Keith's Accolades include being inducted into Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Alma College Athletics Hall of Fame and Okemos Athletics Hall of Fame. He was also named MIAAA Regional Director of the Year and MHSFCA Regional Coach of the Year. He enjoys supporting his community by volunteering at MANNA Food Project, golfing, travel and grand parenting.

Janet Wixson
Human Resources and Payroll Coordinator

Janet joined SCG in March of 2014 as Accounts Payable and Payroll Coordinator. In November 2014 she took on a new role with SCG as our Human Resources and Payroll Coordinator. Janet has also been an intregal part of the development of a more efficient accounting department. Previous to her joining Sports Contracting Group, Janet worked as an Office Manager for a vending company. She brings with her 15 years’ experience in accounting and accounts payable and receivable.

Brittany Bradford
Marketing & Customer Relations Coordinator

Brittany joined SCG in June 2016, and comes with an AAS  from Ohio Technical College. Beginning her career in the hospitality industry, as well as banking, accounts for many years experience in sales and customer service. Brittany is responsible for design and development of all marketing and sales material, maintaining and updating the company website, managing all social media outlets and content curation, trade show coordination, and numerous activities that support day-to-day operations at the office, as well as various projects that assist the sales team. In her down time she enjoys running, biking, camping, hiking, yoga, photography and music.
